What the law says

What the Act extends until March 4, 2027, regarding the UKR status

According to the provisions of the Act of January 23, 2026, on the termination of solutions resulting from the Act on assistance to Ukrainian citizens (Journal of Laws 2026 item 203), until March 4, 2027, the following is extended:

  • temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens and their family members holding a PESEL number with UKR status,
  • validity of documents of Ukrainian citizens: national visas, temporary residence permits, residence cards, Polish foreigner identity documents, “tolerated stay consent” documents, and entitlements resulting from visa-free movement.

Remember that failure to update the UKR status will result in loss of temporary protection and thus loss of the right to stay. If you do not know whether your status is active or you have a problem with it, call us. We will explain what you can do.

Legal advice for a Ukrainian citizen regarding UKR status
Key topics

What we advise on regarding UKR status and stay legalization

During the consultation, we check your current status and which solution will give you the most secure stay after March 4, 2027. Below you will find the most important issues to clarify as soon as possible.

Deadline

UKR status expires on March 4, 2027. Why you should not wait

Temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens with a PESEL number and UKR status is valid until March 4, 2027. After this date, only those who obtain another residence permit, e.g. a CUKR residence card or a temporary residence permit, will be legally allowed to stay in Poland.

Voivodeship offices have many applications, and every mistake in documents delays the case. The sooner you know which path to choose and which documents to prepare, the lower the risk of being left without a valid basis for stay.

CUKR Residence Card

CUKR residence card: who can get it and how to apply

The CUKR residence card is a temporary residence permit valid for 3 years for Ukrainian citizens with UKR status. The application is submitted exclusively electronically, via the Case Service Module (MOS), with an electronic signature. The deadline for submitting the application is March 4, 2027.

The conditions are strict: you must have an active PESEL with UKR status (also on June 4, 2025), hold this status continuously for at least 365 days, and present a valid passport. During the consultation, we will check if you meet the conditions and explain how to correctly prepare the application, documents, and fees.

Problem with status

Do you have a problem obtaining UKR status or have you lost it?

UKR status expires, among others, when you leave Poland for more than 30 days, obtain another residence status, file an application for international protection, or acquire Polish or another EU citizenship. Failure to update data also means loss of temporary protection and thus the right to stay.

If you are not sure whether your status is still active, the office refused to grant it to you, or you received information about its loss, call us. We will analyze your situation and explain your options.

Other options

Temporary residence permit and other ways to legalize residence

Not everyone meets the conditions for the CUKR card. In such cases, it is possible to apply for a temporary residence permit under general rules, e.g. for work, business activity, study, or family reunification. Persons residing in Poland longer may consider a permanent residence permit or long-term EU resident status.

We will advise which basis for stay best suits your professional and family situation and which documents will be needed for the application to have a real chance of positive consideration.

Work and business

Work and business activity of Ukrainian citizens after changes

Persons with UKR status can work in Poland under simplified rules, and the employer reports the job assignment by notification. Establishing a sole proprietorship in CEIDG is possible only with active UKR status. Losing the status means not only a problem with residence but also with work and business.

We also advise employers hiring Ukrainian citizens: we explain information obligations and deadlines to avoid penalties and business interruptions.

How we work

What legal advice regarding UKR status looks like

We start with a conversation and checking your documents: passport, PESEL number, stay and employment history. Based on this, we explain your options, which path is best for you, and what to do step by step.

We provide legal advice. We do not handle cases before the office on your behalf and do not submit applications for you, but after the advice, you will know exactly how to do it. We guarantee due diligence in the advice provided.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about UKR status and legal residence

Until when is UKR status valid?

Temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens with a PESEL number and UKR status has been extended until March 4, 2027. After this date, another residence title is required, e.g. a CUKR residence card or a temporary residence permit.

I lost my UKR status. What can I do?

It depends on the reason for losing the status and your situation. During the legal advice, we will check what happened and explain your options for legalizing your stay.

What is the CUKR residence card?

It is a residence card issued for 3 years to Ukrainian citizens with UKR status who meet statutory conditions, including uninterrupted UKR status for at least 365 days and a valid passport. The application must be submitted electronically by March 4, 2027.

What happens if I do not complete the formalities before March 4, 2027?

After the temporary protection expires, residence without another basis will not be legal. This means the risk of losing the right to work, benefits, and the necessity to leave Poland. Therefore, it is worth acting as early as possible.
